    Meet Trekipuu, WordCamp Santa Clarita Wapuu

    Star Date 26072425: In this sector of the universe, lore holds that a beautiful, graceful, and mysterious group of creatures made first contact with the indigenous people around Castaic Lake. Songs of explorers appearing ‘suddenly,’ in silver ships and spacesuits that sparkled like the stars in the night skies above Santa Clarita.

    But just as abruptly, the disappeared. Until now…

    In the skies tonight

    Reports of scientists at the Griffith Observatory detecting recurring audio signals of unknown origins in the fall of 2025. Community leaders and epigraphists were brought in to compare these sounds and study markings left behind by those prehistoric explorers.

    “Returning for the fourth…” and “Bold Go…”

    Meet Trekipuu

    Sightings of crew of four Trekipuu, a race of Wapuu from Cestus III, repeating these phrases went viral on socials in the northern quadrants of Los Angeles County. Local and global WordPress communities planned gatherings to welcome them back.

    Sporting a retro spacesuit in vibrant greens, blues, and oranges protect a traditionally drawn Wapuu from the harshness of interstellar travel to WordCamp Santa Clarita in Southern California.

    What is a Wapuu?

    The idea for what we now know as a Wapuu began in 2009 when Matt Mullenweg asked the Japanese WordPress community for ideas on a mascot to promote its open-source project in this area. Illustrator Kazuko Kaneuchi created the character that was unveiled on February 11, 2011 at WordCamp Fukuoka.
