How the West Begun
Founded on December 15, 1987, Santa Clarita’s roots grew out of its rich history of silent film cowboys in westerns, movie ranches, and agriculture, Santa Clarita welcomes southbound travelers into Southern California. William S. Hart, Gene Autry, and John Wayne all filmed westerns at movie ranches in our valleys during Hollywood’s heyday and is celebrated annually during the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival at Melody Ranch.
